A small clinic for bodies that work hard

Careful hands, unhurried rooms, and a plan you can actually keep.

Firstlight is a three-room practice for musculoskeletal pain, injury recovery and movement retraining. Appointments run long on purpose — we would rather find the cause once than chase the symptom for months.

Our approach

Craft, in the old sense of the word

We keep the practice deliberately small so the same clinician sees you from first assessment to last appointment. No handovers, no repeating your history to a new face.

Assessment before treatment

The first half of a first appointment is questions and movement testing. We treat once we understand what is actually loading the tissue.

Hands-on, then hands-off

Manual therapy settles the painful part. Loading and technique work keep it settled, so you finish care rather than subscribe to it.

A plan that fits your week

Three exercises you will do beat twelve you will not. You leave with a written plan sized to the time you honestly have.

Care areas

What we treat

If your problem is not listed, ask anyway — a short conversation is usually enough for us to say whether we are the right clinic or point you elsewhere.

Back & neck care

Stiffness, nerve-related aches and the kind of low back pain that arrives after a long week at a desk or behind a wheel.

Most common visit

Sports injury recovery

Ankles, hamstrings, shoulders and knees — graded rehab that takes you back to the sport rather than away from it.

Return-to-play plan

Post-operative rehab

Structured recovery after joint or tendon surgery, paced against your surgeon's protocol and reviewed as you progress.

Longer programme

Persistent pain support

For pain that has outstayed the injury. Slower, calmer sessions built around confidence, sleep and gradual loading.

Paced sessions

Movement & posture review

A single assessment for runners, riders, players and desk workers who want to fix a niggle before it becomes an injury.

Your first visit

What actually happens

Nothing surprising, and nothing you have not agreed to. Here is the shape of a first appointment from the moment you arrive.

A proper conversation

Fifteen minutes on the history: what happened, what makes it worse, what you need to get back to. Bring scan results if you have them.

Movement assessment

Simple strength and range testing, explained as we go. Wear something you can move in — shorts or leggings are ideal.

Treatment in the same session

Hands-on work, dry needling or taping where it helps. We tell you what we are doing and why before we start.

A written plan before you leave

Your exercises, your load limits and an honest estimate of how many visits this is likely to take.

Practitioners

Who you will see

Three clinicians share the practice. You can ask for a particular one when you request a visit, or let us match you to the closest fit.

Physiotherapist · Post-operative care

Questions

Before you book

The things people most often ask us on the way in.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can request a visit directly. If you are claiming through an insurer, check whether they ask for a referral letter first — some do.

How long is an appointment?

First appointments run 55 minutes. Follow-ups are 40 minutes, and post-operative reviews are usually 40 minutes with a longer gap between them.

What should I wear?

Clothing you can move and be assessed in — shorts, leggings or a vest depending on the area. Gowns and towels are available in every room if you would prefer.

What if I need to change my appointment?

Let us know at least a day ahead and we will move it without a charge. Short-notice changes are easier to absorb earlier in the week.

Can someone come in with me?

Always. A partner, parent, carer or interpreter is welcome in the room, and each treatment room has seating for one guest.
